There are a lot of breeders, owners, and/or handlers who may agree, or disagree.  I read tons of information when I first got into Chinese Cresteds, ask lots of questions, & knew a lot of people with dogs having all types of hair from the True Hairless, to the Puff.  This page has nothing to do about the breed standard, is not to step on anyone's toes, or to cause issues.

This page is simply to explain to people who are not Chinese Crested people about my dogs and their hair as they may see in my photos.  Before when I was showing my Cresteds there was never a week that they did not get groomed.  I would NEVER let them be seen in public un-groomed.  I have lightened up immensely to my husbands and the dogs joy.  Maybe seeing my dogs with natural hair growth and groomed for show you can learn more about the Chinese Crested.

So that said.......

I have all types of the Chinese Cresteds except for the puff. If you are interested in additional information on the breed please go to the American Chinese Crested Club web site. americanchinesecrestedclub.com They are a great club with the Chinese Crested's past and future foremost in their minds.

My way of explaining Chinese Crested hairless hair patterns is simple.  I say that  young men who are starting to grow facial hair have different hair pattern growth.

One young man  of may have no facial hair, another a few wild hairs or patches.  Another young man may have pretty much full hair cover, but has holes/patches, while another young man with different hair distribution may have to shave daily.  They all are young men  no matter what their facial hair pattern looks like.  Hairless Cresteds come that way also.

Bobbi is almost a True Hairless.   She takes maybe 15 minutes to groom because mostly I had to clip & shave her face.  A few wild hairs on her body, & few thin hairs on back legs.

Parfait is next closer to the True Hairless.  She has H pattern of guard hairs that come out on her back and than as it goes down the legs getting thicker till it reaches her legs.  Sides and stomach area only have a few scattered hairs.

Elvis has H pattern that you can see in his puppy pictures.  But the hair on his H pattern is on his back & down the legs.  His body coat is all soft coat hairs with no guard hairs on his body.

Eddie has the H pattern also but with a lot more hair & it is pretty thick but not double coated on his body.  He has no hair on his belly & very thin hair on his sides.

Cher is my true puff want to be.  Her coat grown out is beautiful and flows like a puff when she moves but she has no hair on her belly.  And she is single coated.

I hope my simple view has been helpful and not offended anyone.  I love the Crested breed and never want to do anything that may be negative for this awesome bred.
